In principle SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is a data access mechanism that enables Developer and Application to access Structures that are provided as an XML-Service or a WebService (SOAP).
Because most WebServices or similar services has the disadvantage of changing their structure when the underlaying datasource is changed, these Services are simply weak in relation to SAGA.M31 - Galaxy -. With this service a simple request is being send against a container that consistently provides the data in the same structure even the backend is changed.

That is SOA in its pure implementation
Using this implementation it is possible to migrate systems without changing any other application that access the data via SAGA.M31 - Galaxy -. Costsavings during Development and Migration are huge.

How could you provide information?

Define a connector - the Access to the datasource
Describe a Request - e.g. an SQL Statement
Assign fields from a Request to a container - define the logical response

If the Items 1 and 2 are already done for a particular information they are not necessary in defining another container.With combining information from different requests into one container, it is possible to create container that provides information from different datasourcesin minutes.

SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - has four different license features:

DE - Developer Edition
LE - Limited Edition
PE - Professional Edition
UE - Universal Edition

The two first mentioned licenses DE and LE are freeware and available as a download. The limitation are for one concurrent container in the DE - Developer Edition and five concurrent container in the LE - Limited Edition.But they already offer the full functionality of the system like XML-Service and WebService including WSDL-definitions. The Limited Edition howeveris limited to one Server per organization.

The commercial licenses Professional Edition - PE and Universal Edition - UE are not only more flexible in the sense ofconcurrent containers (depending on the purchased licenses) but also contain more features that are required in a professional environment like Billing, Accounting,Hot-Standby Server License, Third-Party Authentication, Complex Queries and Request-Chaining etc. You will find a list of these different features on our Galaxy Website under galaxy.sagadc.com and also in our document Function and Features where we also provide more details.

The Release 1.5 of SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - has been released today. It includes two major Enhancements for the Limited / Developer Edition. It provides a JDBC Interface and a new Web Service Connector.
The commercial "Professional Edition" now implements a XML Transformation Service and further Enhancementsin the Extended Container Feature.

Since November 2005, the commercial version - called Professional Edition - proofs several thousand requests per day at SAGA's customer. Now, this secureand reliable version is also availble for free download to the community with the limitation of 5 concurrent Container named Limited Edition.

Version 1.1 of SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - has passed the WS-I Basic Profile 1.1 and Basic Profile 1.0 compliance tests. Also the new Eclipse-Plugin provides besides the already support Java projects now other project types. The current package includes a PHP API that shows how simple an PHP implementation can be done.
